8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course for Security Guards

This is an 8-hour course required by New York State as the first step in obtaining a security guard registration card from the New York State Department of State. The course provides the student with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard.
Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct. The passing of an examination is required for the successful completion of this course.

16-Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards

This is a 16-hour course that must be completed within 90 days of employment as a security guard. The course provides the student with detailed information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, ethics and conduct, incident command system, and terrorism. The passing of an examination is required for the successful completion of this course.

This is a package that included both courses for new Security Officers, the 8-hour pre-assignment and 16-hour On-The-Job training courses.

Courses for Current Security Officers

8-Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Security Guards

This is an 8-hour course that must be completed within 12 calendar months from completion of the 16-hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards and annually thereafter. The course is structured to provide the student with updated and enhanced information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct.

Frequently Asked Questions

Refund Policy
Students will receive a 100% refund prior to the start of instruction. Courses are divided between two days; the students will receive a 50% refund if requested before the start of the second day. Courses are divided into multiple days; the refund schedule shall be prorated per day. A security guard training school cannot assess any non-refundable fees or deposits.
Refund Procedure
Cancellations must be submitted in writing, by telephone, or in-person to an authorized school official: Gary Pernick (475) 228-0544.
A refund will be granted within 30 days of receiving the request.
I acknowledge that I have read, comprehended, and consented to the terms and conditions outlined in this Refund Policy. Payments made by credit cards will be refunded to your card. Payments made by money order will be issued a company check.
Attendance Policy
100% attendance is required for all courses; however, we recognize that instances may arise when a student may not be able to attend class due to illness, family emergency, childcare, or any other reasonable cause. In these instances, we require a telephone or email notification of absence from class. We will allow students to make up hours during the next available course. Students who are a no-call no-show may be excluded from making up hours. However, they may appeal to the school’s training director. Make-up training will be granted on a case-by-case basis. We reserve the right to reject any application for admission or to terminate a student for reasons of safety, attendance, conduct, or not conforming to the rules and regulations of the school and New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

To resolve a complaint, the student may contact Gary Pernick at (475) 228-0544. The student may also contact the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services at 518-457-2667.
Class Rules and Policies
  1. All classes are being recorded and are archived as per New York State DCJS regulations. By enrolling,you are agreeing to participate and abide by DCJS regulations.
  2. Atendees must join the Zoom meeting ON TIME with their real names and maintain appropriate videovisibility throughout the session.
  3. Microphones should be muted unless given permission to speak by the instructor to minimizebackground noise and interruptions.
  4. Participants should refrain from disruptive behavior, including making inappropriate comments orgestures.
  5. Maintain a professional and respectful atitude towards the instructor and fellow participants. Any formof harassment or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
  6. All training materials shared during the session, including documents, presentations, or videos, are forpersonal use only and should not be distributed or shared without permission.
  7. Participants should have their video cameras turned on, except for scheduled break times.
  8. Use the “raise hand” feature or a designated chat channel to ask questions or seek clarification duringthe training. Avoid interrupting the instructor or other participants during their presentations or discussions.
  9. Dress appropriately for the training session, considering it as a professional environment.
  10. Maintain a distraction-free environment by finding a quiet location, minimizing background noise, andensuring minimal interruptions during the session. Participants must not be outside, driving, orhandling personal business.
  11. Avoid multitasking or engaging in unrelated actvites during the training class. Give full atention to thematerial being presented.
  12. Recording the training session by partcipants is prohibited unless the instructor gives permission.
  13. Partcipants should adhere to the schedule provided for breaks and return to the session promptly after the designated break time.

We reserve the right to remove students in violation of these rules and policies from training course.
